Authorities in Kushtagi will publicly auction 969.05 quintals of seized rice on July 30 following joint anti-smuggling raids conducted across the region.

The Food Department and police in Kushtagi taluk will publicly auction 969.05 quintals of seized rice on July 30 at 11 am. The large stock was confiscated during joint anti-smuggling raids under the Essential Commodities Act between 2020 and 2022.
According to the Kushtagi Tahsildar, the official event will take place at the Karnataka Food and Civil Supplies Corporation wholesale shop located in Kushtagi town.
If the top bidder fails to pay, their security deposit will be forfeited to the state, and the runner-up will get the buying offer.
Officials confirmed that all confiscated rice will be sold strictly on an as-is basis. Interested buyers are permitted to physically inspect the food grains prior to participating. However, the local Tahsildar holds complete authority to postpone or cancel the auction process if turnout remains low or if bids fail to reach the minimum government benchmark price. All applicable market taxes and government cesses must also be paid directly by the winning commercial buyer. Authorized traders are strongly advised to register very well in advance for this great public sale event.
Rules and conditions for participating bidders include:
- Eligibility: Only licensed Agricultural Produce Market Committee traders are allowed to bid.
- Requirements: Bidders must arrive one hour early with license copies, identity proof, photos, and a 10% advance deposit.
- Bidding: Deposits of unsuccessful participants will be refunded immediately, except for the second-highest bidder.
- Payment: The winning bidder must clear all dues promptly and transport the grain independently.
