Bengaluru East City Corporation, in association with Ward Committees and Whitefield Rising, organised a citizen interaction programme titled Building the New East on governance, accountability and service delivery.

Commissioner D S Ramesh said that after the formation of Greater Bengaluru Administration, the corporation has gained independent administrative powers, a separate budget and faster decision making for local development works.

A budget of around 3,800 to 3,900 crore rupees has been proposed for the current financial year, with focus on infrastructure development and improved service delivery across the city.

The corporation is developing a digital dashboard to provide real time updates on all development projects and ensure transparency in implementation and monitoring.

The commissioner outlined major infrastructure priorities including footpath development, traffic congestion relief through new connectivity roads, stormwater drain restoration, solid waste management improvements and strict action against illegal constructions. Coordination with agencies such as BWSSB, BESCOM, KPTCL and GAIL was emphasised for better execution of civic works. Ward committees will play a stronger role in planning, while citizens are encouraged to participate actively in monitoring public works and reporting issues.

The corporation said that waste segregation, CCTV monitoring and flood mitigation projects will be strengthened to improve urban cleanliness and safety. Officials stressed that citizen participation is essential for achieving transparent and accountable governance in Bengaluru East. The programme concluded with assurance that all suggestions from residents and associations will be reviewed and implemented wherever feasible. Senior officials from transport, water supply, electricity and traffic departments participated along with resident welfare associations and civic groups. Authorities reiterated that coordinated governance between departments and active citizen engagement will help Bengaluru East City Corporation deliver better infrastructure, reduce delays and improve quality of urban life in coming years. Officials also said that ongoing staff responsibilities related to elections and surveys will not affect essential civic services in the city. We will ensure transparency, speed and accountability in every project through digital systems and continuous monitoring with support from citizens and partner agencies.
