Shimla
Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leaders in Himachal Pradesh on Saturday visited Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Harsh Mahajan at the Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) in Shimla to enquire about his health and wish him a speedy recovery.
State BJP President Rajeev Bindal and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur met the veteran leader at the hospital and also interacted with the medical team treating him.
The visit came after news of Mahajan’s sudden health issue prompted concern among party workers and supporters across the state. Bindal and Thakur sought a detailed update from the attending doctors regarding the Rajya Sabha member’s medical condition and expressed satisfaction after learning that his health was improving steadily.
According to the senior BJP leaders, doctors informed them that Harsh Mahajan had been admitted to the hospital due to dehydration and low blood pressure. They clarified that medical examinations found no evidence of heart blockage or any other cardiac complications, easing concerns that had spread following reports of his hospitalization.
Expressing relief over the positive medical assessment, Rajeev Bindal and Jai Ram Thakur said Mahajan’s condition was stable and improving rapidly. They also prayed for his continued good health, speedy recovery, and long life, while conveying the wishes of party workers and supporters from across Himachal Pradesh.
Harsh Mahajan later issued a statement thanking everyone who had expressed concern about his health. He said he had now completely recovered and described the hospitalization as a brief medical episode caused by a sudden health-related issue.
By the grace of God, the timely treatment provided by the doctors, and the prayers, affection, and support of my family, friends, well-wishers, and supporters, I have fully recovered, Mahajan said.
He also expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contacted him through phone calls, messages, and other means to enquire about his well-being. Mahajan said the love, trust, blessings, and encouragement he received from people during his recovery served as his greatest source of strength.
Harsh Mahajan remains a prominent political figure in Himachal Pradesh. Once associated with the Congress and considered close to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, he later joined the Bharatiya Janata Party after rebelling against his former party.
He made national headlines in February 2024 after winning the Rajya Sabha election as the BJP candidate in a dramatic contest against Congress nominee Abhishek Manu Singhvi. Both candidates secured 34 votes each in the 68-member Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly, with reports indicating that at least six Congress legislators cross-voted in favor of the BJP. Three Independent legislators were also believed to have supported Mahajan.
As neither candidate secured a clear majority, the election result was decided through a draw of lots, under which Harsh Mahajan was declared the winner. His victory significantly altered the political landscape in Himachal Pradesh and highlighted divisions within the ruling Congress at the time.
With doctors confirming that Mahajan is recovering well, party leaders and supporters have expressed optimism that he will soon resume his parliamentary responsibilities and public engagements.
