Fire services rush after Bidar gas leak incident

Bidar

A major fire incident was reported in Bidar city after a leak in an underground gas pipeline triggered flames in the Jail Colony area, causing panic among residents.

The incident occurred when a pipeline of Bharat Gas reportedly developed a leak beneath the road surface, allowing gas to escape and spread along the roadside. The leaked gas subsequently caught fire, with flames rising approximately 7–8 feet high, creating a tense situation in the locality.

Residents immediately attempted to contact the company’s emergency helpline, but alleged that there was no prompt response. They then alerted the Fire and Emergency Services Karnataka, which dispatched personnel to the spot without delay.

Firefighters reached the location quickly and managed to control and extinguish the blaze before it could spread to nearby houses or infrastructure. Their swift action helped prevent what could have turned into a major disaster in a densely populated residential area.

Following the containment of the fire, officials from the gas company were informed and arrived at the site to assess the damage. The leakage was later repaired and the affected section of the pipeline was secured.

Eyewitnesses and local residents appreciated the timely intervention of the fire department, stating that their quick response averted a serious tragedy. However, strong criticism was directed at the gas company for its alleged delayed response and lack of immediate support during the emergency.

Residents have urged the district administration to initiate a detailed investigation into the incident and hold responsible parties accountable. They also demanded stricter monitoring and safety protocols for underground gas pipelines to prevent similar accidents in the future, highlighting concerns over public safety in residential areas.
