A state-level farmers’ awareness convention is set to be held on May 8 at Darbar Ground in Vijayapura, organised by the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha and Hasiru Sene, with an expected participation of 10,000 to 15,000 farmers from across Karnataka.
The fourth mega convention will be held in the presence of several religious seers, including Shri Shadakshari Shivayogi Dr Murugharajendra Mahaswamiji of Mugalkhod and other pontiffs. It will be presided over by State President Channappa Poojeri and led by State Honorary President Shashikant Guruji.
District Hasiru Sene President Sangamesh Sagar said the event will bring together farmer leaders, activists, agricultural scientists, and progressive thinkers to discuss key issues affecting the farming community. District officials including the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, and Zilla Panchayat CEO will inaugurate the programme.
Organisers said the convention aims to highlight long-standing grievances faced by farmers and urge both state and central governments to address them through policy action. Agricultural experts and scientists will also participate in deliberations, and progressive farmers will be honoured.
Among the major demands are raising the height of the Almatti dam for improved irrigation, completing pending lift irrigation projects, ensuring fair compensation for land acquisition, and strengthening MSP procurement systems for crops.
Farmers are also demanding uninterrupted daytime electricity supply, free or subsidised transformers, revival of irrigation schemes, pension support for elderly farmers, and strict action against fake agricultural inputs.
Other key appeals include stopping privatization of the power sector, providing better infrastructure in newly announced taluks, filling vacant government posts, and ensuring corruption-free services in agricultural departments.
Organisers said the convention will serve as a unified platform for farmers to collectively raise their voice and push for long-pending reforms.
