Speaking at the Maharashtra Day celebrations held at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Park, the Governor emphasized that the state would be a key driver in fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of transforming India into a $5 trillion economy. He expressed confidence that the state’s roadmap, titled Viksit Maharashtra 2047, will accelerate development and position Maharashtra as a leader in economic progress.

Highlighting the broader national vision of Vikasit Bharat 2047, the Governor called upon citizens across all sectors to actively contribute toward building an inclusive and advanced society. He stressed that Maharashtra’s economic strength and strategic initiatives would be instrumental in shaping India’s future.

The Governor pointed to Maharashtra’s rising stature as a global investment destination. He noted that Memorandums of Understanding worth Rs 31.25 lakh crore were signed at the World Economic Forum in Davos. Additionally, the state’s new industrial policy aims to attract investments worth Rs 70.5 lakh crore, with the potential to generate up to 50 lakh direct jobs. To facilitate global investments, a dedicated Foreign Direct Investment desk has been established within the Protocol Department to streamline administrative processes.

Infrastructure development remains a major focus area for the state government. The Governor highlighted the approval of the Public-Private Partnership Policy 2026, developed by Maharashtra Institution for Transformation (MITRA), aimed at boosting infrastructure projects and economic efficiency. Among key projects, the Navi Mumbai International Airport is expected to emerge as a major aviation hub. The fully operational Mumbai Metro Line 3 (Aqua Line) is set to enhance urban mobility, while a 340-kilometre waterway network is being developed across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

The Governor also highlighted the development of Vadhavan Port, which is projected to become India’s largest port and generate over 12 lakh direct jobs, significantly boosting trade and logistics capacity.

Focusing on agriculture, he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to farmers’ welfare. Financial assistance exceeding Rs 15,950 crore has been provided to over one crore farmers affected by natural calamities. Additionally, under the Chief Minister’s Baliraja Free Electricity Scheme, subsidies worth Rs 25,087 crore are being extended to 45 lakh agricultural pumps.

Concluding his address, Governor Varma reiterated that Maharashtra’s development initiatives, combined with strong public participation, would play a defining role in achieving India’s long-term economic and social transformation goals.
