Mumbai Indians coach laments losing winning rhythm

Mumbai

Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawardene has expressed deep frustration after his team suffered a crushing 103-run loss to the Chennai Super Kings. Despite a recent victory in Ahmedabad that seemed to signal a turnaround, the coach admitted the team has completely lost its momentum. The defeat leaves Mumbai struggling in the bottom half of the table with only four points from seven matches.

The match was decided early as Chennai’s Sanju Samson smashed a brilliant century, powering his side to 207. Mumbai’s response was disastrous, as they were bowled out for a meager 104. Jayawardene pointed out that the team failed significantly during the Powerplay overs with both bat and ball. He noted that while the squad shows flashes of talent, they lack the consistency needed to compete at the highest level.

A major concern for the coach is the bowling department, which he described as having a “hole.” Statistics show that Mumbai is among the worst teams this season for conceding “big overs” of 18 runs or more. Jayawardene stressed that giving away extra runs makes it nearly impossible to claw back into the game.

With a five-day break before their next clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 29, the team plans to regroup and rethink their strategy. The coach urged his players to learn from these heavy defeats and return with a more positive, consistent intent. For Mumbai fans, the hope is that this break provides the spark needed to save their season.
