The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has taken a firm stand to protect its players ahead of a major series. The board officially withdrew the permission for star pacer Mustafizur Rahman to play in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). This decision comes after medical experts advised the left arm bowler to undergo immediate scans and rehabilitation for an injury following the recent series against New Zealand.
Mustafizur is not the only player being held back. Rising fast bowler Nahid Rana, who was recently named “Player of the Series” against New Zealand, will also miss the PSL. The board decided to keep Rana at home to ensure he is physically ready for the critical two match Test series against Pakistan starting May 8. By keeping these key bowlers in Bangladesh, the BCB hopes to manage their workload and prevent further injuries.
The news follows Bangladesh’s successful 2-1 victory over New Zealand in the One Day International series. With several veteran bowlers now resting or recovering, the national team has introduced several fresh faces for the upcoming T20 matches against New Zealand. Newcomers like Abdul Gaffar Saqlain and Ripon Mondal have been called up to fill the void left by the senior stars.
By prioritizing national duty over international leagues, the BCB is signaling how much they value the upcoming Pakistan Tests. Fans are disappointed to miss the stars in the PSL, but the board insists that player health must come first to ensure success on the world stage.
