Celebrating the birth of the great philosopher Basavanna is only meaningful if people actually practice his teachings in their daily lives. This was the powerful message shared by MLA Channareddy Patil Tunnur during a special Basava Jayanthi event held at the Veerashaiva Kalyana Mantapa. The program brought together local government bodies and citizens to honor the 12th-century social reformer.

Addressing the gathering, the MLA highlighted how Basavanna led a massive revolution against inequality centuries ago. He reminded the audience that Basavanna believed every human being is equal, regardless of their background. Tunnur also shared a story about Basavanna’s time as a state minister, noting his perfect honesty. He told the crowd that during his years in charge of the king’s treasury, Basavanna never misused a single paisa, setting a high standard for leadership.

Deputy Commissioner Harshal Boyar also spoke at the event, describing Basavanna as the architect of a fair society. He noted that the philosopher’s short poems, known as vachanas, still provide the best solutions for social problems. A special lecture by Dr. Subhashchandra Kaulagi further emphasized that Basavanna was more than just a man; he was a force for change that still inspires the world.

The evening began with a respectful procession of Basavanna’s portrait through the streets. Various local leaders and hundreds of followers attended, showing a united front in their commitment to these ancient values. The event concluded with a call for everyone to move beyond rituals and focus on true humanism.
