NEW DELHI
Gujarat Titans’ assistant coach Parthiv Patel has cleared the air regarding limited bowling role this season. Despite fan concerns, Patel confirmed that the all-rounder is fully fit and that his reduced time at the crease is strictly a tactical “match-up” decision rather than a result of any injury.
The Titans have shifted their strategy this year, promoting Sundar to the top four in the batting lineup to provide him with more stability. While his batting role has grown, his off-spin has been used sparingly. Patel explained that the conditions in Ahmedabad simply haven’t favored Sundar’s style of bowling. “It is purely a conditions-based decision,” Patel noted, adding that the team looks for specific moments, such as when left-handed batters are at the crease, to utilize his skills effectively.
Beyond Sundar, Patel addressed the team’s middle order, which has seen very little action due to the sheer dominance of their top three hitters. With stars like Glenn Phillips and Shahrukh Khan waiting in the wings, the coach insists there is no reason for alarm. The team prefers their set openers to finish matches whenever possible, a plan that is clearly working well so far.
Currently enjoying a confident three-match winning streak, the Gujarat Titans are focused on maintaining their momentum. As they prepare to face the Mumbai Indians, the coaching staff remains committed to their flexible, data-driven approach to ensure every player is used at the perfect moment.
