NEW DELHI
Odisha’s sprint sensation Animesh Kujur cemented his status as India’s fastest man, pulling off a spectacular double victory at the Indian Athletics Series. On a day that tested both raw speed and nerve, Kujur swept the 100m and 200m titles at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
The morning session saw Kujur dominate the 200m sprint, crossing the line in 20.74 seconds. He comfortably outpaced a high-caliber field of over 50 athletes, including 400m national record holder Vishal T, who took second with 21.01 seconds. Rajasthan’s Dharamveer Choudhary followed closely behind to claim the third-fastest time.
However, the real drama unfolded in the 100m dash. In a race so close it required a photo finish to determine the winner, Kujur leaned at the tape to secure his second gold of the day. Running on the stadium’s famously fast Mondo track, Kujur proved that his off-season training has paid off as he transitions into the outdoor circuit.
With these two wins, Kujur has sent a clear message to his rivals ahead of the Federation Cup in May. His ability to maintain top-end speed in the 200m while handling the high-pressure mechanics of a 100m “blanket finish” marks him as the athlete to watch this season.
