HC Dismisses PIL Challenging SSLC Grading System, Imposes ₹1 Lakh Fine

Bengaluru
The Karnataka High Court has dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) challenging the state government’s decision to award grades instead of marks for third language subjects in the SSLC examination, while also imposing a fine of ₹1 lakh on the petitioners for filing the plea without adequate supporting documents. The pe tition was filed by H.N. Chandana and S. Venkatesh, who argued that the government’s decision to replace marks with grades in third language subjects could adversely affect students’ academic prospects. They contended that such a shift in evaluation might impact merit assessment and future opportunities for students.
