Give BJP a chance to make Punjab drug-free: Shah

Blurb: He conveyed that under PM Modi’s leadership, the BJP is equipped to deliver Punjab from the shackles of addiction, financial disarray, and lawlessness.

Moga

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday urged the people of Punjab to support the Bharatiya Janata Party in the 2027 Assembly elections, saying the party could help make the state free from drugs and corruption.

Speaking at a “Badlav” rally in Killi Chahlan village of Moga district, Shah said Punjab is currently facing several challenges, including drug abuse, increasing debt, religious conversions, corruption and the growing influence of gangsters. He also claimed that many industries are moving out of the state due to the present situation.

Shah strongly criticised the Aam Aadmi Party government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. He alleged that the administration is affected by corruption and described it as an “ATM” for party chief Arvind Kejriwal. According to him, the state government has not been able to resolve key problems faced by the public.

The Union minister said Punjab has already given opportunities to parties such as Indian National Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal and AAP to govern the state. Now, he said, people should give the BJP a chance to bring change and development.

He also pointed out that the BJP earlier served as a junior partner in the state government with the Akali Dal, but this time the party aims to form its own government. Shah added that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the central government has taken strong steps such as scrapping Article 370 of the Indian Constitution and reducing Naxal violence, and similar efforts could help tackle the drug problem in Punjab.
