Centre extends textiles PLI application deadline to December

PLI deadline extended

New Delhi

Due to a strong and enthusiastic response from industry stakeholders, the government announced on Friday that it will extend the deadline for new applications under the PLI scheme for textiles until December 31, 2025. The application portal will remain open until then, giving prospective investors another chance to participate and benefit from the scheme, according to a statement by the Ministry of Textiles.

This extension follows a large number of applications received in the recent round starting August 2025, especially from sectors like Man-Made Fibre (MMF) Apparel, MMF Fabrics, and Technical Textiles. Interested applicants can submit their proposals through the official online portal.

The decision reflects the industry’s growing interest in investing under the PLI scheme, showing increased market demand and confidence in India’s domestic textile manufacturing. The scheme, approved in September 2021 with an outlay of Rs 10,683 crore, aims to boost production of MMF apparel, MMF fabrics, and technical textiles, helping the textile sector grow in size, scale, and competitiveness.

Exports of MMF products increased to around Rs 525 crore in FY 2024–25 from Rs 499 crore in FY 2023–24, while technical textile exports rose to Rs 294 crore from Rs 200 crore the previous year.

The Centre’s PLI schemes across sectors have been crucial in transforming India from a heavy importer into a global manufacturing contender, attracting investments over Rs 1.76 lakh crore. These schemes have driven significant growth in output, exports, and employment.

By supporting emerging sectors, fostering innovation, and strengthening global supply chains, the PLI schemes are boosting India’s manufacturing base. Sales by PLI participants have exceeded Rs 16.5 lakh crore, showing strong growth in textiles, electronics, pharmaceuticals, and automotive sectors.
