Sergio Busquets to retire after MLS season

New Delhi
Legendary Spanish midfielder Sergio Busquets will retire from professional football at the end of the current Major League Soccer (MLS) season, Inter Miami CF confirmed.

Busquets joined Inter Miami in 2023 after a long and successful career with FC Barcelona. Since then, he has played a key role in the club’s rise, helping them win the Supporters’ Shield and the Leagues Cup.

In an emotional video shared on Instagram, Busquets said, “It’s time to say goodbye to my career as a footballer. These 20 years have been a dream come true.”

Busquets began his journey with Barcelona in 2005, rising through the youth teams before debuting for the senior squad in 2008. He went on to play 718 matches for the club, making him the third most capped player in its history. He won 31 trophies with Barça, including 8 La Liga titles and 3 Champions League trophies.

With the Spanish national team, he earned 143 caps and played a major role in winning the 2010 FIFA World Cup and Euro 2012.

As Inter Miami heads into the MLS playoffs, Busquets will aim to end his career on a high note.
