Cate Blanchett shines in Jarmusch’s new film

Cate Blanchett’s latest film, Father Mother Sister Brother, received a warm five-minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival on Sunday night. Directed by indie filmmaker Jim Jarmusch, the movie had its world premiere at the festival’s famous Sala Grande theater.

Blanchett, who plays twin sisters alongside Vicky Krieps, smiled as the audience cheered. Director Jarmusch showed appreciation by kissing the hands of his leading ladies, which included Blanchett, Krieps, Charlotte Rampling, Mayim Bialik, and Indya Moore. Actor Luka Sabbat represented the male cast, while Adam Driver and Tom Waits were absent.

The film tells three emotional stories about families in different parts of the world. “Father” is set in the northeastern U.S., “Mother” takes place in Dublin, and “Sister Brother” is set in Paris. Each story explores the bonds between adult children and their distant parents.

This is Jarmusch’s first film at Venice since 2003’s Coffee & Cigarettes. The film is produced by Saint Laurent Prods., Mubi, The Apartment, and others.

Mubi will handle the theatrical release in several countries, including the U.S., U.K., and India. With its emotional depth and international cast, Father Mother Sister Brother is already making waves this festival season.
