Kejriwal slams BJP after Kalkaji Temple murder

Saurabh Bhardwaj accused police of neglecting safety, saying criminals act freely, urging immediate action

New Delhi

AAP national chief Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday criticised the Delhi government over law and order following the murder of a sewadar at Kalkaji Temple. He questioned whether anyone is safe in the city under the BJP-led administration.

The victim, Yogendra Singh, 35, from Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi, had been serving at Kalkaji Temple for 14–15 years. Police said Singh was attacked over a dispute regarding ‘chunni prasad’ on Friday night. The assailants, reportedly armed with sticks and iron rods, physically assaulted him. Singh was rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre but succumbed to his injuries.

One accused, Atul Pandey, 30, from Dakshinpuri, was caught by local residents and handed to police. Authorities are investigating to identify and apprehend the remaining suspects. A case under Sections 103(1)/3(5) of BNS has been registered.

AAP Delhi President Saurabh Bhardwaj accused police of failing to protect citizens and prioritising political work over public safety. “Thieves, goons, and gangsters have no fear of the police. The situation is worsening daily,” he said, appealing to the Police Commissioner for immediate action.

Eyewitness Raju, a fellow temple servitor, described how a group of 10–15 people confronted Singh around 9 pm. “They demanded prasad aggressively. When Yogesh asked them to wait, they threatened him and attacked,” he said.

Kejriwal condemned the incident as an example of the BJP government’s inability to maintain law and order, highlighting the growing insecurity even in religious places. Authorities are intensifying efforts to track down the remaining attackers.
