Veteran leader Pawar criticized the BJP government for disrespecting the Vice President and Rajya Sabha offices, citing Jharkhand CM Soren’s arrest inside the Governor’s House

NCP leader Sharad Pawar on Friday said the upcoming Vice Presidential election is crucial to maintain the dignity of the institution and uphold the respect of opposition parties in India’s democracy. Pawar emphasized that the outcome of the poll is of lesser concern than preserving the stature of the Vice President’s office.
Speaking after meeting Justice B. Sudarshan Reddy, the opposition’s unanimous nominee, Pawar said, “Justice Reddy will discharge his duties while maintaining the dignity of the institutions.” He added that opposition parties, including NCP, Shiv Sena UBT, and Congress, will vote for Reddy according to their strength. “Maharashtra will remain fully with Justice Reddy. We wish him success,” Pawar said.
The veteran leader criticized the BJP-led government for not respecting the dignity of the Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman’s offices. Pawar recalled instances from the past, including the arrest of Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren inside the Governor’s House during C.P. Radhakrishnan’s tenure as Governor, saying such actions make support for the NDA nominee impossible.
Pawar also confirmed receiving a call from Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis seeking support for NDA’s candidate but said he had to refuse as the opposition had already fielded its nominee.
Justice Reddy thanked Pawar for his guidance and support. He stressed that the election is not a South-versus-South contest, adding, “This country is one, called India, Bharat.” The nominee clarified he is not affiliated with any political party and has no intention of joining one.
