Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra has triggered a political storm with her sharp remarks against Union Home Minister Amit Shah, accusing him of failing to prevent infiltration from Bangladesh and making comments the BJP described as “distasteful and hateful.”
Moitra alleged that the Union government was shirking its responsibilities on border security. “The border of India is protected by five forces, and that is directly the Home Ministry’s responsibility,” she said. She went further, launching a personal attack on Shah, alleging that if infiltration persists, “the first thing you should do is cut Amit Shah’s head and put it on your table.”
The party filed a complaint at Krishnanagar’s Kotwali police station through a local resident, Sandeep Majumdar.
BJP leader Rahul Sinha termed Moitra’s remarks “deeply objectionable” and demanded clarification from the TMC. “We want to know if this is the official stand of the TMC. If not, they must apologise and act against her,” he said.
The controversy adds to the long-standing political friction between the BJP and TMC over the sensitive issue of cross-border infiltration. Moitra, who represents Krishnanagar in Parliament, also questioned why infiltration persists despite the deployment of the Border Security Force.
The TMC has yet to issue an official response to the row.
