Western media downplays India’s Op Sindoor: Report

Report says Western bias overlooks Pakistan’s China ties via Belt and Road, Gwadar access, and military aid

London

Western media avoided openly acknowledging India’s military superiority during Operation Sindoor, reflecting a broader reluctance to highlight India’s growing defence capabilities, UK-based Asian Lite reported.

Launched on May 7 in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, Operation Sindoor targeted terror bases in Pakistan with precision strikes — one of India’s most significant military actions since 1971. Satellite imagery confirmed heavy damage to Pakistani military infrastructure, yet Western outlets often portrayed events as equal hostilities, ignoring operational disparities.

India struck six airfields, damaging hangars, runways, radar sites, and command centres. Notable targets included aircraft shelters at Bholari near Karachi, mobile control centres at Nur Khan in Rawalpindi, and the runway at Sargodha in Punjab. Rahim Yar Khan base was rendered non-operational, while Pasrur radar and Sialkot aviation facilities were neutralised. Analysts praised India’s accuracy and minimal collateral damage.

Pakistani claims of hitting Indian facilities between May 8-10 lacked satellite evidence. Western coverage often amplified Pakistan’s civilian casualty claims while downplaying India’s precision and strategic planning — a contrast to their reporting on other nations’ military actions.

The report argued such bias stems partly from Western concerns over regional stability, yet this overlooks Pakistan’s close alignment with China through the Belt and Road Initiative, Chinese naval access at Gwadar, and military aid from Beijing. By underreporting India’s success, Western media inadvertently strengthens a Chinese ally in the Indo-Pacific, the publication said.

Asian Lite concluded that this selective narrative distorts public understanding of India’s technological and operational advances, undermining recognition of its evolving military sophistication.
