MANGALURU
In a heartwarming story, a family   spanning five generations has created history by becoming possibly the only such family in India to collectively open savings accounts under India Post’s Mahila Samman Savings Certificate (MSSC) at the Kinnigoli Sub-Post Office.
The family’s great-great-grandmother, Seetha Poojarthi (103), her daughter Sundari Poojarthi (72), granddaughter Yamuna Poorjarthi (50), great-granddaughter Pavithra V Amin (33), and great-great-grand daughter Dithya V Amin (3) have all taken part in this financial empowerment initiative for women.
The team at Kinnigoli sub-post office is being commended for their efforts in making this possible.
They went the extra mile by visiting the senior women at their homes and arranging transportation, even covering the 40km distance for Seetha Poojarthi. Pavithra’s husband, Vijay Amin, drove them to the post office for the account opening. I wanted all the women in my family to benefit from the scheme after learning about the attractive interest rates and flexible savings options it offers, shared Pavithra, a homemaker.
This achievement was made possible by the dedication of K Raghunath Kamath, head of Multi-Tasking Staff at Kinnigoli Sub-Post office, who actively promoted the scheme and assisted in opening the accounts.
Sudhakara Mallya, Senior Superintendent of Posts, attributed the success to Raghunath Kamath’s efforts in persuading the family members to take part in this initiative that spans five generations. The family’s accomplishment was celebrated with gifts and a treat at a nearby restaurant, highlighting their unique achievement.
