The 1st Fast Track Special Court (FTSC) in the city has delivered a verdict, sentencing a 33-year-old man to three years of rigorous imprisonment for committing an indecent act in the presence of a minor. The incident occurred in 2020 when the accused, identified as H Rahmat Ullah Baig, engaged in inappropriate behavior in front of a young girl. The Bharatinagar police station registered a case against him, leading to a trial that resulted in his conviction. Judge Rupa KN, presiding over the case, pronounced Rahmat Ullah Baig guilty of sexual harassment. In addition to the prison sentence, the accused was fined Rs 20,000 as part of his punishment. The unsettling incident unfolded in February 2020 when a 13-year-old girl was walking with her pet dog in Bangalore. On that day, Rahmat Ullah Baig engaged in the offensive act in front of the minor. Distressed by the situation, the frightened girl attempted to return home, but the perpetrator pursued her and subjected her to verbal abuse. In a swift response, the girl’s father lodged a complaint with the local police on the very same day. The authorities promptly initiated an investigation, registering a case against the accused under the Prevention of Sexual Offenses on Children (POCSO) Act. The police successfully apprehended the accused on February 13, a few days following the incident. CCTV footage played a crucial role in identifying and apprehending the perpetrator. The captured footage was presented as evidence during the trial, assisting the court in reaching a verdict. The case underscores the importance of a robust legal system that upholds the rights and safety of minors. The verdict serves as a reminder that actions violating the dignity and well-being of children will not go unpunished.
