MANGALURU
The District Administration, through the tourism development committee, is contemplating the creation of an integrated portal to boost the district’s tourism potential.
Deputy Commissioner MP Mullai Muhilan, at an interaction organised by the Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists’ Association, told media persons that the portal will be developed with the support of stakeholders, including the hospitality sector, with available resources, with an aim to brand Mangaluru, and showcase its tourism potential.
The portal will also have booking facilities for prominent places to visit such as Pilikula, transport services and so on. The administration is planning to develop various circuits to places of the district.
The district has potential to become a hub for tourists. From here, tourists can easily branch out to nearby destinations such as Sakleshpur, Chikkamagaluru and even places in Kerala, he said.
The administration will also bring out a calendar of events, including Kambala, bhoota kola, temple fairs, surfing events, Karavali Utsav and others, to enhance Brand Mangaluru, and help tourists with their travel plans. The DC said that the district is known for its healthcare centres, and that it is important to tap into the increasing demand for experiential tourism.
We hope to foster an ecosystem in collaboration with stakeholders, enriching tourists’ experiences, by offering sports rehabilitation, ayurveda treatment and more with enhanced facilities and diverse options. By focusing on these activities, we envision establishing a health rejuvenation hub within the district, catering to the wellness needs of visitors, and fostering a thriving tourism industry, he said.
Steps will be taken to ensure that basic facilities are improved at beaches and tourist destinations, with information boards mounted on the highways with details of tourist destinations including beaches, he said.
