The Deputy Commissioner has urged officials to prioritize scientific measures to enhance safety in identified accident-prone areas within the district. During a recent Road Safety Committee meeting, it was revealed that 20 high-risk zones along national highways were pinpointed between 2020 and 2022, highlighting the urgent need for intervention.
To combat the risks associated with these black spots, the Deputy Commissioner called for the installation of pedestrian crossings, zebra crossings, warning signs, high-mast lighting, blinkers, and roadside crash barriers. Additional recommendations include speed humps, foot over bridges, effective drainage systems, and MS railings to improve overall infrastructure.
She emphasized the importance of driver adherence to road safety regulations and speed limits to prevent accidents, urging the public to prioritize safety. Furthermore, she advocated for scientifically informed road hump installations and suggested temporary traffic arrangements during national highway construction to ensure smooth traffic flow.
In a move to bolster safety, she instructed the local KSRTC unit to enforce designated stops for buses in rural areas, rather than allowing drop-offs along national highways. Officials were directed to efficiently utilize funds from the Karnataka State Road Safety Authority’s action plan to implement these critical safety measures.
