HUBLI
Traffic congestion on PB Road has reached alarming levels as public transport and city buses increase the problem by regularly bypassing designated bus stops.
Instead of waiting at the specified locations, these buses have been picking up and dropping off passengers wherever they can, leading to chaotic traffic conditions and widespread inconvenience to people.
The buses start picking up passengers near KC Circle, which is crowded because of the passenger vehicles parked on either side of the road. Traffic gets choked every day from KC Circle to Bankapur Chowk on PB Road because of the absence of notified bus stops and negligence on the part of the authorities concerned.
C Mohan, a social activist, said using PB Road has become the biggest challenge nowadays. In the absence of designated bus stops from KC Circle to Bankapur Chowk, buses stop in the middle of the road. Many people keep waiting for the buses on either side of the road. As the buses stop in the middle of the road, the traffic gets choked, he added.
People used to wait for city buses plying between Karadigudda, Chabbi, Varur and other villages on PB Road at KC Circle. Passenger autos and other vehicles also pick up passengers from the same spot. Because of this, commercial activities on the stretch from Tadaptri Galli Cross to KC Circle gets choked frequently.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) Gopal Byakod said some bus stoppages have been notified, mainly at Tadapatri Galli Cross, New English School and Bankapur Chowk. I will ask officials to check if the boards are displayed or not and also to ensure buses stop at the notified places itself. As the roads are narrow, they get choked, he added.
