High Court Quashes CBI Case Against IPS Officer Ajay Hilory In IMA Scam

Must read

In a significant development, the High Court on Friday ruled in favor of IPS officer Ajay Hilory, ordering the quashing of the case filed against him by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the multi-crore IMA scam. The decision came in response to a petition filed by Ajay Hilory seeking the dismissal of the case brought against him by the CBI. A detailed copy of the court’s order is yet to be made available.
Justice M. Nagaprasanna’s bench granted relief to Ajay Hilory, as the court considered the department’s investigation and found no evidence to implicate him in the IMA scam. With this ruling, the IPS officer has been cleared of the charges brought against him, providing much-needed respite. The IMA scam involved allegations of defrauding investors of thousands of crores of rupees through companies associated with IMA Matara. Ajay Hilory, who served as the DCP of the Eastern Division during the relevant period between January 1, 2017, and August 16, 2018, was accused of accepting bribes from the director of the IMA company to allegedly conceal the irregularities. On January 7, 2020, the government authorized the CBI to conduct an investigation into the matter, which subsequently led to the addition of Ajay Hilory’s name in the supplementary charge sheet. However, on September 9, 2020, the government granted prior approval for his prosecution, prompting the officer to approach the High Court to challenge this decision. The High Court’s latest ruling has brought an end to the legal battle for Ajay Hilory, vindicating him in connection with the IMA scam case.
