It has been decided to provide two-wheelers to all the differently-abled persons in the state based on their need. Therefore, the information of eligible persons should be collected, said Lakshmi Hebbalkar, Minister of Women and Child Development, Persons with Disabilities and Empowerment of Senior Citizens Department.
She was speaking at a meeting to review the progress of Karnataka Development Works on Monday. There are about 4,500 such persons with disabilities in the state. All of them are given a specially designed two-wheeler. The minister said that money has been provided in the budget for this.
The Minister said that steps should be taken to provide immediate compensation to those who died due to HESCOM’s negligence.
Anganwadi Centers in rented buildings should be preferably constructed in school premises as far as possible. Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar said that by doing this, the Anganwadi children will get admission in the same school. She suggested that the local MLAs should be taken into confidence in the appointment of Anganwadi workers.
A grant of Rs 17,500 crore has been provided for Grilakshmi Project. The process of registration of the beneficiaries of Grilahakshmi Project has started from July 20. Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar instructed the Tahsildars that registration process and the number of registered beneficiaries and other matters should be brought to the attention of the local MLAs.
People’s representatives are being appointed to facilitate the delivery of government schemes to people’s doorsteps. Actions have been taken to appoint people’s representatives through them so that the MLAs get a good reputation for bringing the government’s scheme to their doorsteps. He informed the officials that more campaign should be done daily about Grilahakshmi Project at Gram Panchayat level, the Minister said.
