Must read

In an encouraging development, BBMP Commissioner Tushar Girinath announced on Monday that the Corporation is fully prepared to meet the target set by Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to effectively carry out waste management and pedestrian clearance operations within the span of 100 days. Following an extensive progress review meeting with the Zonal Commissioner, Commissioner Girinath emphasized the Corporation’s commitment to address and rectify blackspots within the city. To achieve this, dedicated marshals will be deployed to monitor and manage the identified areas. Additionally, the issue of encroachments on footpaths will also be swiftly tackled, ensuring improved pedestrian accessibility and safety. Furthermore, the focus has shifted to maximizing revenue collection over the past two weeks. Revenue officials have been assigned specific targets for collecting property tax on both a weekly and monthly basis. Commissioner Girinath emphasized that officers failing to achieve these targets may be transferred to other sectors or non-executive posts, encouraging a sense of accountability and efficient performance. In the previous fiscal year of 2022-23, a commendable sum of Rs. 3,300 crore was collected as property tax. However, a significantly higher target has been set for this year, aiming for a 50 percent increase in property tax collection. Commissioner Girinath emphasized the importance of collecting a total of Rs. 4,567 crore by the end of the financial year to support the various initiatives and projects undertaken by the BBMP. Moreover, the Commissioner mentioned an ongoing proposal regarding the canteen issue, which requires further discussion within the cabinet. He highlighted the necessity of allocating approximately Rs. 80 crore to sustain the functioning of the canteen.
