The gruesome murder of Jain muni Kamakumar Nandi Maharaj of Nandi Parvata Ashram in Hirekodi village of Chikkodi taluk has also rocked the Jain community. The Jain community led by Jain saged Sri Balacharya Siddhasena Maharaj staged a massive protest by blocking the national highway in front of Suvarna Vidhana Soudha in the city on Sunday, demanding death penalty for the accused.
Jain sages, Muni Sri Balacharya Siddhasena Maharaj, said, the day jain munis were killed was a dark day for Jain society. Our protest is not a fight against any religion, caste, party, government. We are protesting against the killing of our Jain sages, he said.
Munivarya, the sacrificial beings of the Jain society, needs safety. It should reach not only the Chief Minister but also the Prime Minister. Jainism is based on the principle of life and let live. The accused should be punished severely. He urged the government to ensure that such incidents do not happen in future.
Samaj leaders Bahubali Chougule, Gopala Kudachi, Yellappa Melemani, Shantinath Budavi said, what was the need to kill sages who had sacrificed their clothes like this. The money given to the accused was not of the sages. The money was given by the trust.
What should the sages do to take the money and do. It is being portrayed in the media that the sages were killed for asking whether they had given loans. Jain sages never touch money in their hands. Therefore, the accused who killed the sages should be hanged.
MLA Abhay Patil, former MLA Sanjay Patil, Abhay Avalakki, Raviraj Patil, Manoj Sanketi, Rajendra Jain and a large number of people from nearby villages including Halaga, Bastawada, Alarawada, Anagol, Peeranwadi, Machhe, Majagavi participated in the protest.
