BSF Kashmir launches Wular Environmental Marathon

Srinagar

The Border Security Force (BSF) Kashmir Frontier is all set to host the “Save Wular Run with Borderman” marathon on October 12, 2025, as part of its ongoing environmental preservation and community engagement initiative. The event aims to promote environmental awareness, strengthen community ties, and encourage youth to focus on positive pursuits, according to an official release.

The T-shirt unveiling ceremony for the marathon was held at the Hangul Officer’s Institute, BSF Frontier Headquarters, Humhama. The event saw the presence of distinguished guests, including Satish S. Khandare, IPS, ADG HQ Spl DG (WC) Chandigarh, Soloman Minz, IPS, IG STC Kashmir, Ashok Yadav, IPS, IG BSF Kashmir Frontier, and Shashank Anand, IPS, IG BSF Jammu Frontier.

The marathon will feature three race categories—5 km, 10 km, and 21.1 km— open to both male and female participants. Around 3,000 participants from across the nation, particularly the Kashmir Valley, are expected to take part. Free registration has commenced, and the event also seeks to identify local talent for sponsorship under the “Khelo India” scheme by the Sports Authority of India, enabling further training and participation in national and international competitions.

The Initiative emphasizes the protection of Wular Lake, one of India’s largest freshwater lakes, while promoting environmental consciousness, sportsmanship, and tourism under the motto “Save Wular, run with Borderman.” In addition, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Mann Ki Baat”, the BSF has expanded its canine squad, training 150 Indian breed dogs for operational duties, highlighting a broader focus on skill development and resource augmentation within the force.
