HAVERI
A farmer from Araleshwar has been releasing water into a public tank in the village to quench the thirst of livestock and birds. Ravi Tirumale has been releasing water into the small lake for the last two months. As delayed monsoon affected the entire state, many tanks in rural areas have dried up even at the end of June.
According to sources, Ravi Tirumale has four acres of farmland and a borewell. He has been practising cultivation for the last 15 years, irrigating his land through a borewell. A small tank is attached to his farmland, but it has gone dry due to monsoon delay and it has become hard for livestock and birds as well as other animals. On seeing this, Ravi has been releasing water from his private borewell to the tank to help thirsty livestock.
Normally, monsoon is here in the first week of June every year. However, this year, the monsoon has been delayed by a month, affecting livestock and birds. I have been releasing water into the tank for the last two months. I have sufficient water for cultivation, so it is better to help people who are in need, said Ravi Tirumale.
Raju Nigate, a villager appreciated that Ravi has been helping people by releasing water to the public without any expectations. Tank water has helped many livestock and birds in the village. Thanks to Tirumale for his extraordinary service to animals by providing drinking water, he said.
We have four hundred sheep, but we had difficulty finding water for them. Now we are relieved because Ravi has been releasing water to the tank. It is helping us a lot, said Vittal Banni, a nomadic shepherd from Chikodi.
