A Bengaluru court on Friday sent Tahsildar Ajit Rai to seven-day Lokayukta custody for further investigation. The Lokayukta had arrested the Tahsildar on Thursday after they found disproportionate assets from his residence and other properties during a raid that went on for more than 24 hours.
After arresting Ajit, the Lokayukta Police produced him before a Bengaluru court and sought 10-day custody. After hearing both parties, the court gave his custody to Lokayukta for seven days.
The court also permitted Lokayukta to take Ajit to his native Puttur for further investigation. The Lokayukta on June 28 raided Ajit Rai’s residence in Sahakar Nagar in Bengaluru and 10 other locations and seized 40 lakh cash, jewellery worth more than Rs 3.5 crore and several property documents. According to reports, Ajit was planning to start a horse riding training centre on the outskirts of Bengaluru. Ajit was recently transferred and moved out as KR Puram Tahsildar and was reportedly waiting for a posting. When he was produced before the court, Ajit seemed unaffected by the developments and was smiling during the hearing.
