BBMP Formed Committee To Recruit Qualified Teachers

Must read

Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palika (BBMP) has constituted a committee headed by Special Commissioner (Education) IAS officer Preeti Gehlot to conduct qualification and background check of the teachers to be appointed. Officials have pointed out that unqualified teachers are the reason for the poor performance of BBMP-affiliated schools in the 2022-23 state examinations. Despite pleas to appoint qualified teachers, to no avail. Basic qualifications including PUC pass and TET are required to become a teacher. However, the background check of the teachers revealed that many of them do not have this qualification, BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath told.
While overall 83.89 per cent passed the SSLC exam, only 67.53 per cent students passed in BBMP schools. These schools have historically had a low pass percentage in board examinations. Sometimes less than 50 percent results are obtained. Also, these schools are also suffering from shortage of teachers.
There are total 142 schools under the corporation. They face common problems of lack of infrastructure and equipment. However, shortage of qualified teachers is a major issue. We are asking for qualified teachers who are professional and capable of performing their duties properly, Girinath said. Currently, the process of recruitment of teachers is going on and it is likely to be completed by the end of June. Many of the teachers who are about to expire have been hired on contract basis.
