Yakshagana Hasyaraja Jayarama Acharya passes away

Jayarama Acharya, aged 67, from Bantwala, known for his humor in Yakshagana, died on Monday morning. He suffered a heart attack while participating in a Yakshagana program in Bangalore.
Acharya traveled to Bangalore for a performance with a team led by Yakshagana artist Chandrasekhara Dharmasthala. On Sunday, he stayed at the home of RK Bhatt. Around 4 a.m. on Monday, he experienced a severe heart attack. Other artists rushed him to the hospital, but he died without responding to treatment.
Arrangements were made to return his body to RK Bhatt’s house for public viewing before it was taken to Bantwala by ambulance. Acharya was born in Bantwala on October 12, 1957, to Bantwal Ganapati Acharya and Bhavani. He completed his education at Bantwala Government Higher Primary School. With encouragement from his father, he impersonated several characters in Amtadi and Sornadu fairs. He was an artist at the current Hanumagiri Mela, where he entertained audiences with his performances.
