The BMTC, which intensified its efforts to detect ticketless passengers, collected a total of Rs 6.54 lakh in fines in a single month last March. BMTC inspection staff inspected 14,697 trips of buses and fined 3,449 ticketless passengers. Besides, 1330 cases have been registered against conductors for dereliction of duty, said a BMTC press release. In the month of March, it collected a fine of Rs 14,600 from 146 male passengers who traveled in seats reserved exclusively for women passengers. Officials informed that a total fine of Rs 6,69,340 was collected in the month of March. The corporation appealed to the public to purchase tickets and passes while traveling to avoid fines and embarrassment. Also, it has been requested not to travel in seats reserved for women passengers. However, some passengers are found to be violating the rules. Officials said that ticket-pass purchases will help the agency provide better service to passengers.
