In order to complete the work of KR Puram-Kempegowda International Airport on Namma Metro’s Blue Line within the stipulated period, Bangalore Metro Railway Corporation is installing U Girder near Chikkajala. For the first time U girders are being installed for the viaduct (overpass) in the work of this route. This type of girders is used to reduce construction time and cost. Namma Metro used U Girders for the first time on the Outer Ring Road-Airport route in June last year. 15.1 km from Yalahanka IAF to Kempegowda Airport. 784 U girders are being installed on this route. Each of the U girders is 28 m long and weighs 165 tons. These are being lifted on the pillar by crane. A U Girder is designed in Doddajala Metro Shed. Generally box girders of 2.2 meter to 2.5 meter length are used in our metro line construction, but U girders are much longer than these. A U-girder can be installed between two pillars. Often box girders require more time to install. If u-girders are used instead, the cost of work will also be reduced. This work can be easily completed at night. A total of 2172 pillars are being constructed on this route, of which 1619 pillars have been completed so far, Metro officials said. 38.44 km metro line is under construction between KR Pura-Hebbal-Kempegowda International Airport. This work has been undertaken at a cost of 2,200 crores and the work is going on in three phases. Nagarjuna Construction Company has got the contract for the work. 30 stations are being constructed here.
