In a tragic incident, two children died after falling into an agricultural pond at Saptasagar village in Athani taluk. The deceased children have been identified as Sridhar Paris Hosur (15) and Harshitha Sheetala Chippadi (9).
On Wednesday, on the occasion of Ugadi festival, the children had gone to have darshan of the deity on the outskirts of the village. When Harshita sat in the temple premises and got down to the adjoining farm pond to wash the plate, she slipped and fell, following which her friend Sridhar rushed to her rescue. However, Sridhar also slipped and fell into the pit and died. The incident took place under Athani police station limits.
