The District Administration, as part of its Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP), a flagship programme of the Election Commission of India for voter education, spreading voter awareness and promoting voter literacy is bringing out a four-page (tabloid) e-paper every day.
Titled Election Patrike, the Kannada e-paper is brought out at 6pm every day and is currently reaching 75,000 people. In a week’s time, we will reach out to 2.5 lakh people on WhatsApp and other social media platforms, said Zilla Panchayat CEO H Prasanna. He told, this is an innovative attempt as part of SVEEP to spread awareness on the election, the process and how the electoral system has developed over the years. The edition will be brought out till the election process is completed. We have put in place a system to reach a maximum number of people.
Each gram panchayat has a data entry operator who has created a broadcasting group with 259 members. The district has 155 gram panchayats. Also, there are 1,111 BLOs in the district who head the Booth Awareness Group (BAG). They too have been asked to create one group of voters. Through the Sanjeevani Self Help Groups, each gram panchayat has one main bookkeeper, who coordinates with Sanjeevani group members.   In addition, there are other groups including teachers and official groups of various departments. Our aim is to increase polling percentage, he said.
DIET Principal Govind Madiwala is a key person of the project and four other staff members, who are interested in the subject have been roped in. The formal launch of the e-paper was on March 17. Drawing teacher and team member Guruprasad Gurumurthy has designed the masthead. Voter helpline – 1950 is a prominent part of the masthead.
