Road works lead to potholes & dust, Commuters suffer

Must read

Roads dug for the sake of work and all over the atmosphere. It is the everlasting gloom of the residents of the Bommanahalli Assembly constituency.

Roads have been dug in many places for the installation of the Kaveri water supply pipeline and drainage pipes in the Bommanahalli Assembly constituency. Roads have been dug up by Bescom for installation of power cables under the ground. This makes the climate of the region denser. The public is complaining that traffic is obstructed.

It is imperative to dig roads to run development works. But the question of local residents is not whether they should show the same excitement for digging the road, even in the case of potholes.

The Water Board dug up the road for drainage on the narrow Begur Road, which is very congested. The roads here are difficult to navigate. Vehicle traffic has increased exponentially. And the sprinkling of the dud is not wrong here

Private companies are also digging for optic fiber cable (OFC) installation. There are also complaints that after the work is completed, the road has been left untouched. The BBMP has not taken any action against such companies despite digging up the roads without permission. The locals say they have not even filed an FIR against them.

“The High Court has repeatedly criticized the BBMP for shutting down the potholes. On the other hand, the practice of digging and leaving the road is increasing. It is unfortunate,” said Kanakaraj, a resident of Garvebavipalya.

‘The road was dug for drainage piping. Roads have been completed but the roads have not been cleared. This is filling the house with complaints. If the road is repaired as soon as possible, we can breathe a little bit of relief,” said KC Pratap, a resident of Chikkabegur Gate.

‘Before the road is cleared for the work, Bescom and Water Board will get permission from the BBMP. They also bear the cost of restoring the road. Private companies must obtain permission before digging the road to adopt the OFC. Shashikumar, chief engineer of the BBMP Bommanahalli Zone, said, “If the road is dug for the implementation of the OFC, it is their responsibility to repair it.”

Commenting on this, MLA Satish Reddy said, “The work of Bescom and Water Board is still in progress. We hope to complete the road repairs as soon as all the works are completed.
