Kyiv
As a summit between the leaders of the European Union and Ukraine was set to start in the nation’s capital on Friday, air raid warnings went off in Kyiv and throughout the country. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskiy was entertaining high-ranking representatives of the European Union who were in Kyiv and promising to support Ukraine “as long as it takes” while preventing the war-torn nation from quickly joining the Western bloc.
In preparation for the one-year anniversary of Moscow’s invasion, which has destroyed cities, killed tens of thousands of people, driven millions from their homes, and shook the world’s food and energy supplies, Zelenskiy hosted EU Chairman Charles Michel and the bloc’s Chief Executive, Ursula von der Leyen. The three leaders will declare in a joint statement that the EU will stand with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people against Russia’s continued aggression for however long it takes.
