Authorities have issued strict instructions to school vehicle drivers and operators to ensure the safety of children travelling to and from schools. The directions were given during a meeting held at the City Resource Center in Gadag.
The meeting brought together drivers and operators of school vehicles from aided and unaided schools in the Gadag City Zone. Officials discussed several important safety measures and stressed the need for strict compliance with traffic regulations.
Speaking at the event, Regional Transport Department Officer Arunkumar Kattimani said that the safety of schoolchildren must always be the highest priority. He instructed drivers to operate vehicles carefully and avoid risky actions such as careless overtaking or dangerous driving on busy roads.
He emphasized that school vehicles must always follow traffic rules and that negligence of any kind would not be tolerated. Drivers were advised to remain alert at all times and ensure children travel in a safe and secure environment.
Kattimani also stated that students should not be seated beyond the approved seating capacity of any vehicle. He directed drivers to maintain a speed limit of 40 kilometers per hour and ensure that seats, doors and locking systems remain in proper working condition. Vehicle fitness certificates, insurance papers and other required documents must also be updated regularly.
Area Education Officer G. M. Sadamani highlighted the importance of installing GPS systems in all school vehicles. He said emergency preparedness is equally important and instructed operators to keep first aid kits and fire extinguishers in every vehicle.
He further stressed the need for regular awareness programs and training sessions for drivers on traffic rules and road safety practices. Drivers were also advised to behave politely with children and maintain discipline inside the vehicle.
Officials warned that mobile phone use while driving is strictly prohibited. They stated that legal action would be taken against anyone found violating safety rules or driving recklessly.
The meeting also reviewed vehicle fitness, brake systems, tire quality and other safety features. Officials concluded that following every safety guideline is essential to protect children and ensure secure daily transportation.
