Awareness rally urges end to child labour

A public awareness jatha program on abolition of child labour and juvenile labour was held in Gadag to spread message on protecting children and promoting education.

Senior Civil Judge Shivana Gowdra said children are the future of the country, and it is the duty of all to stop child labour and bring children into the education system. He said education is the key to a bright future, and forcing children to work is a crime. He urged the public to immediately report such cases to the authorities.

The programme was organised by the District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, Labour Department, District Child Labour Eradication Scheme Society, and District Legal Services Authority in Gadag. The event was held at Gadag Betageri Municipal Council premises on World Child Labour Day. Senior officials, including District Commissioner C N Sridhar and others, presided over the programme and highlighted the importance of protecting children and education. Several officers, NGO members, and education representatives took part.

Starting from Gadag Betageri Municipal Council premises, the awareness procession moved through major roads, including Mahatma Gandhi Circle, Mahendrakar Circle, Tongakoota, Old Bus Stand, and Rotary Circle. Students, officials, and the public joined the rally in large numbers. They carried placards with slogans against child labour and called for education for all children. Messages highlighted that children must be in schools and not at work. The event created strong awareness among people and encouraged society to report child labour cases immediately, and support collective responsibility to protect childhood and build a better future for every child in the district.
