The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) plays a key role in protecting Indian industry from unfair trade practices while ensuring compliance with World Trade Organization rules, said top official Amitabh Kumar in New Delhi. He explained that DGTR conducts anti-dumping, anti-subsidy and safeguard investigations and recommends appropriate measures to the government. These actions aim to address dumped, subsidised or sudden import surges that harm domestic producers. Kumar stressed that trade remedies ensure fair competition rather than restricting imports. The process is transparent, evidence-based and includes stakeholder participation. DGTR also follows the Lesser Duty Rule and supports exporters abroad through its Trade Defence Wing.
