India has officially reaffirmed its strong commitment to boosting credibility, compliance, and consumer confidence within the global natural diamond sector. The announcement came as the high-profile meeting which was successfully concluded in Mumbai under India’s chairship.
The intense four-day event brought together global participants, international observers, industry stakeholders, and civil society organizations. The delegates focused heavily on advancing vital discussions regarding market monitoring, technical trade processes, governance, statistical data, and artisanal diamond production. According to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the sessions maintained a sustained focus on strengthening transparency and reinforcing trust across the value chain.
Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal highlighted India’s unique responsibility as the world’s leading hub for diamond cutting and polishing. He emphasized that the natural diamond sector sustains millions of livelihoods globally, from producing nations to final consumers. Goyal stated that India will continue to champion a framework that remains robust and highly responsive to evolving consumer expectations.
Additionally, Kimberley Process Chair Suchindra Misra emphasized that trust remains the absolute foundation of the natural diamond trade. The meeting concluded with a strong push to enhance public outreach, helping to convey the positive impact of responsible sourcing to everyday buyers.
The Kimberley Process Certification Scheme is a global initiative established under a United Nations General Assembly Resolution. Its primary goal is to prevent conflict diamonds from entering legitimate trade networks while actively promoting responsible sourcing across the entire international supply chain.
