KOPPAL
The Horticulture Department launched its landmark 10th annual Mango Fair, marking a decade of connecting local farmers directly with fruit lovers. Running until May 22 at the Joint Director’s office, this year’s exhibition is bigger than ever, featuring over 100 farmer stalls and a stunning 200 varieties of the “king of fruits.”
The star attraction is the world-renowned Miyazaki mango. While this Japanese variety can cost ₹2.5 lakh per kilogram globally, Koppal farmers are selling their locally grown harvest for ₹2,500 to ₹3,000 per kilo. The demand is so high that many eager customers have already paid in advance to secure a taste of this luxury fruit.
Beyond the exotic, the fair celebrates the “Koppala Kesar” brand, which has gained immense popularity for its rich flavor. Visitors can explore everything from organic Dashahari and Mallika mangoes to value-added products like fresh juice and bottled pickles. To celebrate the 10-year journey, a special photo gallery displays the fair’s history from 2016 to 2026.
Modern farming is also in focus. The department is introducing “en-ripe” pouches, a natural ethylene technology from IIHR Bangalore that helps mangoes ripen safely without harmful chemicals. With free stalls for growers and a fun “mango selfie point” for families, the event is a true community festival. Officials encourage everyone to visit, enjoy the nutritious fruits, and support local farmers in building a sweeter future for Koppal’s agriculture.
