Tamil film director Karu Palaniappan who made his directorial debut in 2003 and won the State Award with his first film is making his acting debut with ‘Kallan’, which will be helmed by a screenwriter turned director Chandra Thangaraj.
A new update from the movie makers has surfaced that the film is scheduled to release in theatres on March 18 reportedly. The movie also stars Nikita, Maya Soundaraja and Namo Narayanan. The music for the film is composed by K Krishna Kumar or widely known as K.
‘Kallan’ is a gangster drama and is based on real-life incidents. According to reports, the story of the movie is inspired by Chandra Thangaraj on what she witnessed while growing up in her village near Theni. The story of the movie revolves around the people who have taken up hunting as their profession and how they change their paths and move into a criminal lane after the government bans hunting. The movie is a period drama based in the 1980s.
Speaking about ‘Kallan’, director Chandra Thangaraj in an interview with the media stated that she hopes to break the prejudices in the film industry about female directors. She also reportedly added that her film has violence and anyone who loves brutality will enjoy her film. She also revealed how the lead role in the movie turns into a criminal because of the dark events in his life and alleged that the screenplay of ‘Kallan’ would be fresh and unique and that audience might not have seen anything like this before.
The director also reportedly stated that it took her nearly four years to find a producer for the film and she finally landed with Producer Madhiazhagan after narrating the script to about 50 other producers. Chandra Thangaraj also noted that her film does not focus on caste and community.
