I Wanted An Out-Of-The-Box Film For My Comeback: Suneel Rao

Must read

Director Hemanth Kumar L’s Thurthu Nirgamana is set to release on June 24. This film marks the comeback of Suneel Rao, who has been missing from the big screen for over a decade, albeit he was seen in a cameo in Old Monk this year. Suneel says this self-imposed break was needed and he is convinced that he has the right comeback vehicle.
I have always done unconventional films, and am known to experiment. So, when Hemanth approached me with this script, I was sold by the subject around 45 minutes into the narration. I wanted a script that would be out-of-the-box for my comeback, and this was it, he shares.
What was the reason behind his self-imposed break? There was a point when I considered myself a misfit. I love filmmaking as a craft, and fortunately, I can survive without it. I waited for a while until I felt it was right to be back. The first instance was the web series Loose Connection, which was quirky and different. This was followed by this film, he says.
When we ask him about Thurthu Nirgamana, Suneel says that the title itself suggests that there is some kind of pressure in the film. “Life is like that – everyone is under some kind of pressure. We are all in flight or fight mode in those situations and to some extent, we are looking for relief. In the film, my character Vikram dies at 32 and gets a second shot at life. This second chance is something that we all seek. What Vikram does makes for an interesting and relatable story,” he says.
