Sahith Theegala shines at Houston golf open

Houston

Indian-American golfer Sahith Theegala is staying right in the mix at the Houston Open. After another impressive performance, Theegala shot a second straight 3-under 67, leaving him tied for 11th place as the tournament moves into the weekend.

Theegala showed great steady nerves throughout his round. He picked up early momentum with back-to-back birdies on the fifth and sixth holes. Although he stumbled slightly with a bogey on the eighth, he bounced back beautifully on the return stretch, sinking two more birdies to finish strong. Joining him in the spotlight is fellow Indian-origin player Sudarshan Yellamaraju, who climbed to 20th place after a brilliant, error-free round of 66.

At the top of the leaderboard, the story of the day belongs to Gary Woodland. The former U.S. Open champion surged into a three-shot lead with a stunning 7-under par. Woodland’s performance is being hailed as a “miracle comeback” by fans, as he only recently returned to the tour following major brain surgery in late 2023. He now sits at 12-under par, proving he is back to his world-class best.

Close behind the leader are Denmark’s Nicolai Højgaard and Jackson Suber, who are both tied for second. Højgaard actually fired the best round of the week so far—a blistering 62. With the leaderboard so tight and the stars finding their rhythm, the final two days in Texas promise plenty of drama and high-speed action on the greens.
