Suzuka
Lewis Hamilton has made it clear he is firmly back in contention for top honours in Formula 1, expressing renewed confidence and determination ahead of this weekend’s Japanese Grand Prix at the iconic Suzuka Circuit.
The 41-year-old, widely regarded as one of the greatest drivers in the sport, said his relentless work ethic continues to set him apart. Reflecting on his preparation, Hamilton revealed he had already completed an intense morning training session while some of his rivals were just beginning their day. “I know none of the drivers I’m racing against have trained as hard as I have, especially at my age,” he said, underlining his enduring motivation.
Hamilton’s illustrious career speaks for itself. With a record 105 race wins, 104 pole positions and 207 podium finishes, he is tied with Michael Schumacher for a record seven world championships. Yet, last season marked a rare dip in form following his high-profile move to Ferrari after years of dominance with Mercedes. He failed to secure a race win or podium, an unusual outcome for the sport’s most decorated driver.
However, early signs this season suggest a strong resurgence. Hamilton finished third at the Chinese Grand Prix and believes he now has a car capable of competing for victories. “I’ve not lost what I had,” he asserted, brushing aside criticism and reaffirming his belief in his abilities.
The 2026 season has introduced sweeping technical changes, including hybrid power units split evenly between electric and combustion energy, alongside lighter chassis designs. While some drivers, including reigning champion Max Verstappen, have criticised the new regulations, Hamilton has embraced them. “I’m just personally enjoying it,” he said.
With George Russell and rising talent Kimi Antonelli already securing wins for Mercedes this season, competition remains fierce.
For Hamilton, last year’s struggles have only strengthened his resolve. As he returns to Suzuka, he appears determined to prove that his pursuit of an unprecedented eighth title is far from over.
