Indian Archers Win Two Bronze, Enter Two Finals at Asia Cup Stage 1

Bangkok

India delivered a strong all-round performance at the Asia Cup World Ranking Tournament Stage 1, clinching two bronze medals while advancing to two team finals on an eventful second day of competition.

The highlight of the day came from the women’s compound team, featuring Chikitha Taniparthi, Raj Kaur and Tejal Salve, who stormed into the final with a narrow 229-226 victory over hosts Thailand in a tense semifinal. The Indian trio showed composure under pressure and will now face Kazakhstan in the gold medal clash, improving on their bronze finish from the previous edition.

In contrast, the men’s compound team endured a disappointing semifinal despite dominating the qualification round. The experienced trio of Rajat Chauhan, Rishabh Yadav and Uday Kamboj squandered a five-point lead to lose 233-234 to Vietnam in a dramatic finish. After a perfect start, India faltered in the middle stages as Vietnam delivered back-to-back perfect ends to overturn the deficit.

However, the Indian men bounced back strongly to secure the bronze medal, edging past Bhutan 234-232 in a closely contested playoff.

India also impressed in the recurve section. The men’s recurve team, comprising Devaang Gupta, Sukhchain Singh and Juyel Sarkar, advanced to the final with a convincing 5-1 win over Malaysia. The top-seeded Indian side maintained control throughout, combining consistency with timely precision to book a place in the summit clash against Kazakhstan.

Meanwhile, the women’s recurve team—Ruma Biswas, Kirti and Ridhi Phor—secured a bronze medal after defeating Malaysia 5-1. The trio produced a dominant performance, building an early lead and maintaining their advantage to finish on the podium after missing out last year.

Overall, India’s campaign has been marked by both promise and missed opportunities, with strong showings across categories. With two teams now in the finals scheduled later this week, the contingent will aim to convert their momentum into gold medals and cap off an impressive outing.
